Plan Your Career Moves Carefully if You Want to Succeed
In my own vastly different career paths, I’ve noticed that the Career Transition from one phase to another could have been much more fluid and natural if only I had some good Career Coaching. Instead, I just allowed myself to fumble and stumble all the way. I guess this might have something to do with why I had to go down so many different career paths and yet still not find any stable comfortable workplace to stay and retire in. Oh well, such is life, as they say.
My own work experience started when I was a teenager flipping burgers at the local burger joint. The pay was terrible as you might imagine, but hey, what else could a teenager do. I was actually pretty good at the job too, although my boss was not the type who would’ve noticed. I guess he just felt we were all temporary workers that didn’t deserve anything except minimum wage.
My next job was at the college radio station. Yeah, I know. How does one go from flipping burgers to spinning songs on the radio? It beats me. I just saw an a flyer on campus and decided to give it a try. The stupid part was, this DJ job actually paid less than flipping burgers and consumed more of my time. I probably should’ve stuck with my old burger flipping job, but something about being young and adventurous made me forgo the better pay in exchange for having music be such a huge part of my life on a day to day basis. Big mistake. If I had to do it over again, I probably would’ve taken the hire pay and instead try to more forcefully get my boss to notice what a valuable resource I was in his business. No one told me these things, so I had to learn through my mistakes by making a lot of mistakes.
After I graduated, I found that no one was hiring. It turns out I needed to have set up some interviews prior to graduation, rather than just expect a lot of interviews to be had left and right once I had my degree in hand. Stupid, I know. And since I was a DJ in my college days, my work experience had absolutely nothing to do with what I wanted to get into, that is, electrical engineering. Sure, the radio equipment uses electricity, but yeah, that’s about it. Most of the employers I later interviewed with were less than impressed with my choice of occupation in my college days. One interviewer even told me that he flipped burgers when he was in college and probably would’ve liked me more if I had done the same.
In any case, after a year and a half of unemployment after finishing my college degree, I finally found work as a garbage man. It’s sad, but everything else just looked so out of reach, especially after I allowed my skills to atrophy over that long period of rest. It should have been obvious to me back then, but I was too young and dumb to realize: math and science skills need to be practiced over and over if you don’t want to lose them. I was basically unemployable as an electrical engineer after taking such a long break from the technical stuff.
Again, I wish I had some Career Coaching that could’ve helped me tremendously here. Even some good advice on how to break into the sanitation industry would’ve helped with that Career Transition. Instead, I just allowed chance and luck to guide me in life. Stupid move. And now I was recently fired from my garbageman job too, with no backup plan of course.
A good employment may certainly be life-changing but that is what is evading many job-seekers now. It is not that new job-seekers are the only sufferers. Jobs like shift supervisors, assistant store managers, store managers, district managers and regional directors are available with them. But, before sending in the appropriate

There have been a number of encouraging signs that the economy is getting back on its feet and this has meant a distinct increase in the numbers of jobs available and an overall lowering of the unemployment rate which has been significantly higher than average for many years now.
