New Grill Restaurant Opening Night

A new burger joint opened recently down the road from my neighborhood. I decided to check it out as another location of the same chain had been getting rave reviews. The theme of the restaraunt is gourmet burgers. They come up with very interesting and unique ideas for toppings to put on their burgers.

I actually walked in to the place as they were starting the opening celebration. Confetti was tumbling down and the owners popped open some champagne as their new diner was opened for business. It was a great atmosphere with lots of patrons.

I decided on the burger I wanted: it was a concoction of havarti, goat cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce and radish, and a walnut pesto sauce, all between two soft poppy seed buns. The beef vas very juicy and flavorful. I also got an order of sweet potato fries which were incredible. All in all, it was the best burger and fry combo I’ve ever had. The owners have every right to celebrate as they have a real winner on their hands.

Medicinal Uses of Herbs

While visiting the website of a supplier of bulk herbs, I followed the link to articles on the medicinal qualities of herbs. Many people believe that the natural properties of herbs treat the illness or complaint directly, as opposed to modern medicines that tend to treat the symptoms. Whether or not this belief has a scientific basis, it is interesting to see how herbs were used as traditional medicines. Make a paste with marjoram to treat a skin rash. Rub mint leaves on your teeth to whiten them or on your skin to relieve the pain from stings. Chew parsley leaves or dill seeds to sweeten your breath, especially after eating garlic. Smoke dried sage in a pipe to treat asthma. Mix thyme with syrup to cure whooping cough. Dill seed tea will cure insomnia. Rub a clove or marjoram paste on the offending tooth to relieve toothache. According to tradition, herbs belong in the medicine chest as well as in the kitchen.
